Xiaoliang Zhang, PhD, is an Associate Professor in Residence and Director of the Parallel Imaging and High Field MR Technology Lab in the Department of Radiology and Program in Bioengineering at the University of California, San Francisco Mission Bay. Dr. Zhang obtained his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis in 2002, and in September 2006, Dr. Zhang came to UCSF as an Assistant Professor in Residence.
       Dr. Zhang’s research interests include fast MR imaging techniques for biomedical applications, electromagnetic problems and computational electromagnetism in in-vivo magnetic resonance imaging at high static fields, parallel imaging methods, transceiver arrays and system at ultra high magnetic fields, MRI compatibility and safety of implanted medical devices, and brain metabolism and function mapping using MRI’s. Present research grants include: RF coils for parallel MRI/MRS in vivo at high fields, multichannel dual-tuned transceiver techniques for human low-gamma nuclei MR, technique development for hyperpolarized C-13 MR studies, parallel excitation and multiple transceiver channels for enhanced parallel imaging capability at 7T, and dual-frequency transceiver for detection and quantification of brain tumors using hyperpolarized C-13 and H-1 parallel MR spectroscopic imaging at 7T. Dr. Zhang has published 38 articles dedicated to his research.
